Negotiations on accession


Pursuant to the application of Croatia for membership of the European Union submitted on 21 February 2003, European Commission brought positive Opinion of the European Union on the application of Croatia for membership of the European Union and on 18 June 2004 the status of a candidate country for membership has been granted to Croatia. Also in March 2005 the Negotiating Framework for Croatia has been adopted by the European Council.

 

After political decisions of the European Council from June and December 2004 on opening of negotiations and convening of the bilateral conference, negotiations have formally started on 3 October 2005 by the first bilateral intergovernmental conference.

 

By obtaining a positive Opinion of the European Commission, followed by the positive decisions of the Council of Ministers and the European Council, Croatia has made great progress in achieving its strategic goal in relations with the EU, enjoying a wide political consensus in the country.

 

Negotiations on the accession determines the overall political and economic development of Croatia in the forthcoming mid-term period and are of the crucial importance for all Croatian citizens so according to that is necessary to provide the answers to the most frequently asked questions of the citizens on negotiations:
