Bilateral screening for the Free Movement of Goods chapter begins on 13 February in Brussels
Bilateral screening for the Free Movement of Goods chapter (Ch. 1) begins on 13 until 17 February in Brussels. The screening is the preparation for the accession negotiations with the EU, and in the bilateral phase the Croatian representatives informed the European Commission with the current situation of the national legislation and the level of harmonisation with the acquis communautaire reached so far as regards this chapter.


During the first, explanatory phase of the screening for this chapter, held on 16-20 January 2006 in Brussels, the representatives of the European Commission have introduced the acquis communautaire for this field.
 
On the first day of the bilateral screening for this chapter, the Croatian experts will introduce the situation in the non-harmonised area, as well as in the area of pleasure crafts, RTT equipment, electromagnetic compatibility, low-voltage equipment, toys and cableways.
 
The second day the presentation of horizontal questions, i.e. of the general principles of the New Approach and assessment of the conformity, and of the accreditation, standardisation and surveillance of the market will take place. After the horizontal questions, the screening will continue with the simple pressure-vessels and pressure equipment, the requests for the ecological design of products using electricity, the machines and noise emission of the equipment used in the open, the emission of pollutants from engines of non-road mobile machines, the ATEX, the personal safety equipment and the elevators.
 
The following topics will further be presented on the agenda; the construction products, gas appliances, legal metrology, packaging, medical products and medicines.
 
On the fourth day there will be the presentation of the motor vehicles sector, cosmetic products, weapons, cultural goods, textiles, shoes, timber, crystal glass, process of notification and the conformity as regards rules on the safety of products imported from third countries.
 
On the last day of the screening the chemicals sector will be presented.
 
After the completion of the screening for this sector, the European Commission will prepare a report on the screening results and the readiness to start negotiations for this chapter.
